Disney+ Overhauls Mobile Experience with Vertical Video Feeds and AI Sports Tools
Per Yahoo Tech, Disney+ just rolled out a wave of new features at D23, headlined by TikTok-style vertical clips called Verts and AI-powered personalization for sports.

The streamer says roughly 40% of its mobile users have already interacted with Verts since the format's March launch, while the ESPN App version has drawn more than 24 million users and over 1.5 billion minutes of viewing since August 2025. If you're paying $8 to $18 a month for this app, here's what actually changes for your watchlist — and what you can safely ignore.
Verts: vertical video you didn't ask for
Verts is Disney's name for short, vertical clips built for quick mobile scrolling — essentially a TikTok-style feed embedded inside Disney+. Disney frames it as a discovery tool: sample a series in 30 seconds, decide whether to commit to a full season.
The engagement numbers are real. About 40% of mobile users touched Verts within five months of launch. On the ESPN side, the format has pulled 24 million users and 1.5 billion minutes since August 2025. Erin Teague, EVP of Product at Disney Entertainment & ESPN, called it a supplement to long-form originals, not a replacement: "There will never be a replacement for that long-form original content, but what is interesting is the way that it is now being supplemented by the shorter-form analysis, the clips."
What it means for you: if you watch Disney+ on a TV, this is irrelevant. Verts is a mobile-only feature. If you live on your phone, expect the home screen to feel noisier — snackable clips will compete with your Continue Watching row for attention. It's a trade-off: faster sampling for cluttered interface.
The sports bet: AI personalization and Multiview
Disney is leaning on sports as a retention lever. Three new features are coming: SportsCenter For You (an AI-personalized sports feed), StreamCenter (a live sports hub), and Multiview (watch multiple games at once). Select college football games and College GameDay simulcasts will land on Disney+ in the U.S.
For cord-cutters, this matters. If your current setup is ESPN+ plus a skinny live TV package, Disney+ absorbing more ESPN content could shift your consolidated cost. If you're a college football fan, the GameDay simulcast alone might justify re-upping through season. If you don't care about sports, ignore it — these features don't change the value of the scripted library.
The bottom line on your bill
Disney+ isn't raising prices with this announcement, but the feature creep is real. Verts, AI feeds, Multiview, more local originals — that's a lot of UI surface area for a sub that started as a streaming library. Long-form originals remain the core product, and Disney is right to protect that. The same logic applies to keeping historic hotels in New York intact — both are bets that the original experience still has value worth preserving.
Skip these features if you watch on TV only. Test Verts on mobile for a week if you want a faster way to sample new series. Hold the subscription if college football or Multiview is the missing piece in your cord-cut stack — that's the clearest practical upgrade here. Otherwise, this is a platform getting louder, not better.
